EPDM buyer’s guide

A short guide to buying the right materials the first time, with no second trip to the shop.

1.14 or 1.52 mm?

RubberGard 1.14 mm suits most roofs: houses, garages, canopies, extensions and ponds. Choose RubberGard 1.52 mm if the roof will carry a green roof, a terrace, solar panels or regular foot traffic.

Which roll width

Pick the widest roll that fits your roof. Every seam means extra work, tape and primer. A small roof up to 3 × 30 m can often be covered with one roll and no seams. Wide rolls (up to 15.25 m) are delivered folded, so the boxed roll is short. Not sure? The EPDM calculator lays out the rolls on your roof for you.

What you need besides the membrane

Every product page has a “You will also need” box showing what the product cannot be used without.

What it can be bonded to

The membrane can be bonded to concrete, OSB, plywood and PIR boards. It cannot be bonded to mineral wool or EPS: choose a mechanically fastened or ballasted system, or lay HD Board on top. See the comparison on Elevate roofing systems.

Weather and storage

  • Store adhesives, primers and tapes in the warm, at 15–25 °C.
  • BA-2012 is used at 5 to 35 °C on a dry, clean surface. Use an opened pail within 48 hours.
  • Below 15 °C FormFlash stiffens: warm it with a heat gun before installing.
  • Adhesives, primers and cleaners are flammable. We agree their delivery after you order.

Common mistakes

  • Seams and details are not primed, and the tape lifts.
  • Adhesive is applied to one surface only.
  • Narrow rolls are bought, and the roof ends up with many seams.
  • Parapets, pipes and drains are forgotten, and work stops halfway.

If in doubt, send the roof dimensions or photos to info@epdm-shop.lv and we will check your materials list.
