Elevate roofing systems
An EPDM membrane can be secured to a roof in three ways. The system depends on the substrate, the roof pitch and the structure.
Fully adhered system
The membrane is bonded over the whole area with BA-2012. Suitable for concrete, OSB, plywood and PIR boards, including refurbishment. On mineral wool and EPS only with HD Board on top. Withstands wind loads up to 4000 Pa. This is the usual choice for houses and small roofs.
What to buy: membrane, BA-2012, QuickPrime Plus, Splice Tape, RPF Strip, Termination Bar, Lap Sealant HS.
Mechanically fastened system (RMA)
The membrane is secured with RMA strips on screws, with no holes through the membrane. For metal deck roofs (≥ 0.75 mm), warehouses and production buildings. Line spacing and the number of fasteners follow the wind load calculation: there are more at roof edges and corners.
What to buy: membrane, QuickSeam RMA Strip, AP Fastener screws, V-Plate washers, Splice Tape, QuickPrime Plus.
Ballasted system
The membrane is loose-laid and held down with gravel or pavers (≥ 50 kg/m²). Only for roofs with a pitch up to 10 % and a structure that carries the weight. Also suits terraces. A specialist must check the structure first.
What to buy: 1.52 mm membrane, Splice Tape, QuickPrime Plus, Walkway Pad for walking routes.
If there is insulation under the membrane
The membrane is not bonded to mineral wool or EPS. HD Board is laid on top and fixed with screws and insulation plates, or a mechanically fastened or ballasted system is used. In a warm roof a V-Gard vapour control layer with SA-19 primer usually goes under the insulation.
Common to all systems
- Seams: QuickPrime Plus primer and Splice Tape.
- Parapets and walls: RPF Strip and Termination Bar.
- Drains: Drain Connector and Water Block Seal.
